The School of Medical Sciences (SMS) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has received a cheque for GHS 100,000 from the alumni class of 1990. As one of the smallest cohorts of the school’s alumni, members contributed varying amounts toward the school’s legacy project.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Dean, the Vice Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Professor Fred Stephen Sarfo, reflected on the celebration of SMS’s 50th anniversary, which focused on fundraising for the legacy project.
He expressed gratitude for the class of 1990’s presence and their contribution to the initiative.
“For the past year, we have been celebrating SMS at 50 and a lot of activities have gone on, and our focus is to be able to raise enough funds to start the legacy project. So we are happy and pleased that the class of 1990 are here this morning to make a donation in that regard,” he said.
He further conveyed appreciation to the alumni class for their generosity and optimism for the success of the legacy project.
“We are most grateful to the class of 1990 for this generous gift,” he said. “We are optimistic that the enthusiasm and the drive that the Dean has started will get us there in starting this project.”
The donation was presented by four members of the alumni group: Dr. Frank Ankobiah, Dr. Osei Owusu Ansah, Dr. Yeboah Mensah, and Dr. Peter Armah.
Leading the group, Dr. Ankobiah underscored their commitment to supporting the school’s vision.
“We also decided to contribute our quota,” he said. “This is our portion of what we can do.”
He added that contributions toward the project were ongoing, with more members pledging to support.
“And we understand it is ongoing, so some of our members have promised that time in, time out, they will contribute,” he said.
